Preview - Shrek the Musical

Shrek the Musical Darlington Operatic Society Theatre4Everyone
Coming this Autumn, everyone's favourite ogre will be chasing you out of his swamp and all over Duloc.

The 2001 Dreamworks animated movie was a smash hit, prompted a number of sequels and an award winning live stage musical. Now, Darlington Operatic Society will open their toilet doors, don their fairytale costumes and take us on the dragon-taming, donkey-singing, gum-drop-button-eating quest to find Princess Fiona and break True Love's spell.

Fresh from their massive Priscilla, Queen of the Desert spring show, DOS are busy putting the final touches to casting, ready to finally get Shrek on the Hippodrome stage. Originally planned for October 2020 (but postponed due to lockdown) this will be the latest in a long run of incredibly successful shows by the Society.

Julian Cound, Chairman of DarlingtonOS is so excited to be able to present this musical having been delayed for two years due to the covid pandemic:

“Since theatres were able to re-open post-covid back in June 2021, DarlingtonOS has presented a socially distanced concert which involved video footage merged with live performers, a full-scale songs from the shows musical extravaganza and, most recently, Priscilla Queen of the Desert which played to over 5000 people.”

“It is clear that local audiences are aching to see live theatre and we are only too happy to offer what audiences want. Shrek The Musical is the perfect opportunity for families to experience live theatre together – kids love the show on one level and, much like pantomime, adults love the show on a completely different level.”

Packed full of comedy, great songs, amazing costumes and the DOS seal of quality, this is certain to be another smash hit. Grab your tickets today and give you and your family something to be excited about after the summer holidays.

Shrek The Musical runs at Darlington Hippodrome from Wednesday 26 October to Saturday 5 November, 2022. Tickets are available now from www.darlingtonos.org.uk or by calling the ticket hotline on 01325 244659.
